Bury go third on a water-damaged North Tuesday

By Ian Townsend

Bury Town are our only winners, as Stow, Witham, Swifts and Wroxham have to settle for a point

Fourth place Bury Town did the unthinkable last time out- they lost- but they put that right at Basildon United last night, and earned revenge for a six-two defeat the last time the sides met.

It was the Bees who made the breakthrough, Callum Fitzer opening the scoring just before the half hour mark, but that just provoked the visitors, who had completed the turnaround by half time. Luke Brown delivered the equaliser to ensure his side were behind for only ten minutes, and in stoppage time Cemal Ramadan put the Blues ahead with his twenty eighth goal of the season. Just after the hour Oliver Yunn added a third for Town, and that saw the scoring end, and the visitors up to third.

The Bees are eighth, but ten points away from a top five spot.

The Basildon mud was recorded for posterity by the Bury Town media team.

Third place Brentwood Town fell behind against against fifth place Bowers and Pitsea in the early stages of the second half, Matt Price with the opener- but it turned out not to matter, as the match was abandoned soon afterwards. They’ll have to do it all again, sadly.

Heybridge Swifts, in sixth, took a long trip out East where they faced Wroxham. With a seven point gap to make up on the play off places, Swifts knew that anything less than three points was unlikely to be enough, but they ended up with only one, and no goals, neither side managing a breakthrough. Swifts are now six points away from the top five, but have played a game more than the two sides who are in their sights, despite extending their unbeaten run to five matches. Thje Yachtsmen go four unbeaten.

Finally, Stowmarket Town welcomed Witham Town. The last time the sides had met, Witham won eight-nil, but a repeat of that never looked likely as both sides left with a point. The visitors went ahead just before the break, Frederick King with the opener, but David Lorimer drew his side level from the spot on the hour and that’s where the scoring ended. Stow are twelve points from safety, whilst Witham are twelfth.
