Cambridgeshire derby is an eight-goal thriller

City take the spoils in the Velocity Trophy

Group Three of the Velocity Trophy got underway last night with a match between Cambridge City and Soham Town Rangers- and if the rest of the fixtures bring the excitement of a first, supporters of the sides involved are in for a treat.

In the five matches they'd played prior to last night's fixture, City had scored only four goals- and one of them was an own goal. Within ninety minutes they'd more than doubled that tally, as Arel Amu, Matt Sparrow, Isaac Maynard and Max Booth- with two- found the back of the Rangers net five times. Rangers didn't lie down and accept their fate, they scored three of their own; Lloyd Groves got a first half equaliser, then reduced the arrears to three-two soon after the break. Rangers third goal was no more than a consolation, however, as it came in the very last minute from Toby Andrews. Defeat brought to an end a three match winning run for Rangers.

City gave a debut- from the bench- to a new defender, Samir Rhaiti, who has signed on loan from the Ipswich Town Academy.
