Christmas Monday's Ryman South review

By David Watters

There were only a couple of Christmas Monday games in Ryman South and both produced `upsets`, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Bottom side Whitstable Town stunned fifth-placed Herne Bay by achieving only their fourth win of the season.

A terrific crowd of 730 at Winch`s Field seemed to motivate the visitors, who shocked the hosts by taking a third minute lead through Dean Grant. But the second and decisive goal came just past the hour-mark and it was worthy of winning any game as youngster Harry Stannard hit a 25-yard stunner past Bay keeper Jack Delo.

Ramsgate started the day in fourth, a point in front of Bay, and they stayed that way after lowly Sittingbourne produced a 4-0 win to move six points clear of the drop zone. Dan Hughes gave Bourne a 35th minute lead in front of 223 at Woodstock Park.

But all the action came in the last few minutes. Jordan Wells doubled Bourne`s lead in the 87th minute and the Rams` Ian Pulman received his second yellow for descent following the goal. Wells then went on to complete a remarkable hat-trick in stoppage time as the Rams lost their shape.
