Corinthian celebrate Rams double

Corinthian have taken very well indeed to life at Step Four. They’d already beaten Ramsgate before the two met again last night, and have also defeated Hastings United and drawn with Ashford United, Haywards Heath Town, Cray Valley PM and Herne Bay- so their influence on the promotion chase has been rather important. Just how important is yet to be seen, but the sides competing with the Rams for a Play Off place must have been delighted to see the outcome of last night’s match at the Southwood Stadium, as the side in green and white hoops once again undid their much-vaunted opposition.

Harvey Smith got his fifth goal in six matches when giving the visitors the lead on twenty minutes, but when Joshua Ajayi got the equaliser for the Rams only eight minutes later- his twenty second of the season- the odds would have been on a home win. Corinthian had other ideas. Oscar Housego got his seventh of the campaign- this one from the spot- to restore the visitors lead just before the break, and despite the Rams best efforts, Jack Holland made sure of the outcome five minutes from time.

Rams boss Matt Longhurst commented:

“Credit to Corinthian. They out ran us and out worked us at times, and some poor defending cost us. If you look at the goals we have conceded all three are mistakes, but that can happen at all levels. The players have been great, and I as the manager take responsibility.“

The Rams remain in third, twelve points off the top but more importantly five ahead of sixth place Herne Bay- although Bay have a game in hand. Corinthian are tenth, eleven points behind the Play Off places.
