Lewes leader leaves

Lewes have announced that their manager Darren Freeman will be leaving the club after Saturday's match at home to Cray Wanderers.

Darren, who joined the club almost four years ago, has been offered an employment opportunity which he feels will be incompatible with his role as First Team Manager at the Dripping Pan. Head here to learn more about his reasons, and to read Chairman Stuart Fuller's tribute to his departing manager.

On social media a number of supporters have also been paying their tributes. Ashley Head stated:

'Immensely grateful for everything Darren’s done at and for Lewes. On a personal note he’s always been open, approachable and candid. Wish Darren and his family all good things going forward.'

Joe Betts added:

'Words can’t explain how grateful I am to Darren for bringing back good times and good football to the pan after what seemed like endless disappointments and woeful performances in the years that preceded him. That promotion year especially will live long in the memory. Thank you so much.'

Gary Blabber added a touch of humour, stating: 'Where do we go from here? Thank goodness Steve King has just got another job.'

Ross Standen and Tony Coade will act as caretaker managers whilst the club decides on its next steps.
