'On the evening of Wednesday 29th August 1951 over 5000 spectators were at Brooklands for the match. They were amazed to see that the visitors played with only a small strapping around their feet and no football boots!'
Volume three of Romford's marvellous club history- 'To Wembley and beyond'- is describing the visit of a touring side from the Gold Coast, modern-day Ghana, to take on The Boro. And now you can head to Romford Library to find out more about that match, taking a look at many photographs from the day and reading a number of contemporary reports, as Havering Council hosts an exhibition entitled 'When Ghana came to Romford 1951' as part of their celebration of Black History Month.
The exhibition is open now and will run until 31st October.
