A full back for Basildon- and a Ferdinand connection

By Ian Townsend

Nathan Fuma heads to Essex- and the club link up with Anton Ferdinand

Basildon United have announced the signing of Hertford Town full back Nathan Fuma.

Nathan can play on either side, and was previously with Reading, where he played for the Under 23 side. He made nine appearances for Town in the Pitching In Isthmian South Central during the 2019-20 season, but was less active last season.

Away from the first team squad, the club have begun a partnership with The Ferdinand Football Group, which is spearheaded by former West Ham United, Sunderland and QPR defender Anton. The group will be 'supporting and developing their foundation and youth teams from season 2021/22.'

United Chairman Lee Connor explained:

“I am very excited to be able to get this partnership over the line, working with FFG will enable us to grow our youth teams organically from the Ferdinand Steps to success programme, through to our first team for both men and women. This partnership will also enable us to provide football for those in the community who have children with a disability, this part of the programme is something I ideally wanted to be part of; having a child with a disability myself.

We look forward to a bright future working in partnership with FFG and hope our youth sections can become something the community can be proud of.”
