The draw for the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy was made earlier today, and it brought together a number of intriguing clashes.
We have a number of definite- and potential- all Bostik Premier clashes. Perhaps the most mouthwatering is the visit of first place Tonbridge Angels, conquerors of Whyteleafe on Saturday, to Meadowbank to face third place Dorking Wanderers. Additionally, Brightlingsea Regent will host AFC Hornchurch, Burgess Hill or Worthing may entertain Haringey Borough if the Coles Park side can get past Chesham, whilst if Carshalton Athletic can defeat Metropolitan Police tonight in a replay then the Robins will face the Hawks, Harlow Town, who disposed of the other Hawks (Whitehawk) at the weekend.
The Rooks will host international opposition, as Merthyr Town head to the Dripping Pan from Wales, whilst Enfield Town’s reward for their win at Lowestoft is another fairly long trip to face Evo-Stik opposition, this time Basingstoke Town, currently ninth in the Southern Premier South.
South Central might face Premier, if Kingstonian can get past Bedford Town to travel to Chipstead, whilst Horsham’s reward for disposing with one Premier Division side on Saturday is to welcome another, Potters Bar Town making it two promoted opponents in two rounds for the Hornets.
Brentwood Town host Poole Town, famously defeated by Haringey Borough in the final qualifying round of the FA Cup, whilst Herne Bay will meet our former Premier Division side Needham Market. Merstham will travel to Steve Claridge’s Salisbury, second in the Southern Premier South, whilst Hayes & Yeading United will either travel to Swindon or Banbury.
Aveley’s reward for defeating Dunstable is to host either Kempston Rovers or Beaconsfield Town, whilst the winners of the tie between Bracknell Town and Bognor Regis Town will head to our old friends Walton Casuals.
Folkestone Invicta will host either Mangotsfield United or Didcot Town, and might just be tempted, if it’s the former, to do what Lewes did with their posters when playing the same side in the cup a number of years ago- record the opposition as Mangotsfield United and hope that the locals are short sighted!
Greenwich Borough will host Bishop’s Stortford, and finally Wingate & Finchley will travel to either Hartley Wintney or Tiverton Town.
Matches will be played on Saturday 10th November, and the full list of all of our ties is below.
