Fan funding already boosting budget

Ryman Premier Dulwich Hamlet have used cash raised by their fans to fund the re-signing of winger Dean Lodge and bring in striker Calum Willcock.

Officials at Champion Hill announced on Tuesday that manager Gavin Rose, pictured, has been able to strengthen his squad thanks to their successful 12th Man scheme.

Launched in 2012, the scheme has now raised more than £22,000 to make possible a number of signings the club's budget would otherwise not have stretched to.

Popular winger Lodge has been at Dulwich since 2013, making 39 appearances and scoring 11 goals. Blighted by injury last term, he has rebuilt his fitness this summer before committing to the campaign at Champion Hill ahead of Saturday's 3-0 home win over Canvey Island.

Willock brings invaluable experience to the playing squad and signed last week before getting the new season off to the best possible start on Saturday when he scored within three minutes of kick-off to set Hamlet on their way to a three points.

A Hamlet spokesman said: "The scheme relies on donations from supporters to help raise valuable additional funds, exclusively for use on additional players.

"With the club playing budget already fully committed, the 12th Man has stepped in to fund the signings using money generously donated by supporters."
