Keeper departs for fresh challenge elsewhere

By David Watters

Experienced keeper Aaron Omand has left Romford in search of a fresh challenge away from the Ryman North club.

The Chelmsford-based stopper, pictured, announced his decision to the management and supporters at Ship Lane over the weekend after three seasons at The Boro.

Omand moved to Romford in 2013 from former Ryman North outfit Waltham Forest. The 27-year-old went on to feature 93 times, picking up three Ryman North keeper of the month awards during the 2013-14 campaign and the supporters' player of the season accolade last term.

* Romford have launched the most ambitious fundraising campaign in the club's history.

On the eve of the new season, officials set the club's fans a target of raising £10,000 for Project 10.

Initiatives already planned include a major sponsored event during the season and a Christmas raffle with officials also considering turning to 'crowdfunding' and hosting a number of other events.

Supporters are being urged to use #Project10 on social media to support efforts, launched to help the club pay the rent on their groundshare at Thurrock, be able to train throughout the winter and also purchase a life-saving defibrillator.

A club spokesman said: "The aim is to raise £10,000 hence the name Project 10 and we are hoping that through supporters and the use of social media we are able to reach a wide audience and raise this much needed money."
