Millers a point clear on a day of few goals but plenty of drama

By Ian Townsend

Ramsgate recover for victory, Whitstable wallop Hythe, and Hastings back back to winning ways at ten man Bridges. it's our Pitching In Isthmian South East round up.

Our top South East match saw leaders Cray Valley PM host third place Haywards Heath Town, and it was Heath who took the first half plaudits, Sam Remfry with the opening goal four minutes before the break. The equaliser came from Gavin Tomlin fourteen minutes from time, and the two could not be separated. The Millers are a point clear at the top, Town slip to fourth, four points behind.

Ashford United, starting the day in second place, took the lead against Sittingbourne on forty minutes, Josh Wisson with the only goal of the first half, but then made it difficult for themselves as Thomas Fagg saw red. The best efforts of the Brickies came to naught, and the Nuts and Bolts are a point behind the leaders. Sittingbourne are eighth.

Ramsgate fans saw their side concede early on against Whitehawk, Omarr Lawson scoring for the Hawks on five minutes, but then had much to cheer as Ashley Miller and Callum Peck turned the game around before they’d even got to twenty minutes. The next goal was critical, and it went to the Rams, Joshua Ajayi getting his thirteenth of the season, and after that they saw the game out to comfortably claim three points and go third. The Hawks are twelfth.

Bode Anidugbe got the only goal of the first half for Herne Bay against Lancing, but Zak Ansah quickly doubled their advantage after the break. Gabe Robinson pulled one back for the Lancers on sixty seven minutes, but the hosts held out and end the day in fifth.

Three Bridges hosted title favourites Hastings United, and went ahead on seven minutes, Noel Leighton with the opener, but within five minutes Leighton had gone from hero to villain, seeing red and leaving Bridges to hold out for seventy eight minutes with ten men. The visitors levelled just before the break through Jack Dixon, and although the ten men worked manfully to get something from the match, Hastings took all three points when Ben Pope made it two ten minutes from time. United are sixth, eleven points behind Cray Valley PM with two games in hand.

Burgess Hill Town are on a good run, and got themselves ahead in their Sussex derby against
East Grinstead Town when Michael Campbell scored on twenty minutes. That turned out to be the only goal of the game, the Hillians ending the day in ninth after their seventh unbeaten Isthmian match in a row. Headline image from Chris Neal- and the rest are here.

Faversham Town got our first South East goal of the afternoon as Eddie Allsopp scored after two minutes at Corinthian, and that turned out to be the only goal of the match, so anyone who was late to their seat or to their place on the terrace must be feeling a little deflated. The Lilywhites end the day in thirteenth, Corinthian are tenth.

Hythe Town hosted Whitstable Town, and the Oysterboys got their noses- shells- in front on eighteen minutes, Luke Illsley shucking the deadlock. The next goal also went the way of the visitors, Alex Gaggin with that one, and when Danny Walder made it three there was no way back for the Cannons. Whitstable move to two points behind third bottom East Grinstead Town, and will travel to Whitehawk next weekend with their confidence rejuvenated.

Chichester City got off to a flyer against Phoenix Sports, Callum Overton breaking the deadlock on just four minutes- his seventh of the season. Emmett Dunn made it two ten minutes into the second half, and City eased to the win. Sports are now four points behind second bottom Whitstable Town, and have now lost FOURTEEN consecutive matches across all competitions.
