The Gulls leave it late, the Millers hit five- and it's four for the Magpies, the Yellows and Bury

By Ian Townsend

It's our round up of a hectic Pitching In Isthmian North afternoon

Leaders Canvey Island have scored goals for fun of late- twelve in two matches this month alone- but visitors Coggeshall Town weren’t going to roll over and the Gulls found it difficult to make the breakthrough. Of course, when winning is a habit the goals tend to come, and that’s exactly what happened two minutes from time, Callum Fitzer popping up to keep the Gulls three points clear at the top and send the Seed Growers home with nothing to show for their efforts.

Romford have been having a torrid time, and it looked set to continue when Dereham Town took the lead on seventeen minutes, Toby Hilliard with the goal. Adam Hipperson doubled the Magpies advantage before the break, his ninth of the season, and Hilliard made it three on sixty nine minutes. The Magpies weren’t finished, and Shaun Bammant got number four with fourteen minutes left to end the day in second place and leave Boro second bottom.

An improving Tilbury went ahead at AFC Sudbury on twenty eight minutes, and the goal went to Roman Campbell, who was scoring for his sixth match in a row- and he’s only played seven times. The yellows equalised twelve minutes after the break through Jake Clowsley, but almost immediately the Dockers were ahead once more, Oliver Spooner with the goal. Ryan Boswell then quickly saw red for the visitors, and that proved critical. In no time at all Ross Wall- on from the bench- had equalised for the hosts on his debut, and then Cruis Nyadzayo put them ahead from the spot.

Wall had his second of the match with four minutes left, and the match was won. The yellows are third, four points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

Aveley were hosting a Felixstowe & Walton United side elated after their Trophy glory, but they’d have been less elated after Joe Benton put the hosts ahead on nine minutes, and positively miserable when the same player doubled the Millers advantage four minutes later. Benton had FOUR before the break, as Aveley went in four goals up, and there was a fifth just after the hour, this one coming not to Benton but to Manny Ogunrinde. That was that- the Millers had mercy, and the match ended five-nil, which sees Aveley end the day in fourth.

Witham Town and Grays Athletic couldn’t find a goal between them in the first half, but they quickly had one in the second, Lewis Clark making it one-nil to Athletic. The next goal came right at the death, and it was an equaliser, Adam Vyse earning the hosts a point from the spot. Athletic are fifth, Town are eighteenth- but after three consecutive defeats they’ll be delighted to pick up a point.

Stowmarket Town and Hashtag United hosted six hundred and sixty fans, but gave them nothing to shout about in the first half, and not much more to shout about in the second. The game ended goalless, which leaves the hosts in sixth, and the Tags in twelfth.

Bury Town gave us the first goal of the North Division afternoon, Ross Crane putting the hosts ahead against Barking after just two minutes. It got worse for the visitors when Pepin-Junior Yassi-Pepin departed with a red card midway through the first half, undoubtedly waved goodbye by many of the five hundred and twenty six in attendance, and Cemal Ramadan quickly took advantage of the extra space to make it two-nil. Ross Crane made it three sixteen minutes from time with his second of the match, and Jake Chambers-Shaw got number four just before the end. Town are seventh.

Maldon & Tiptree have looked more like their old selves of late, but Great Wakering Rovers have been in decent form themselves and shocked the Jammers faithful when Jake Gordon put the visitors ahead from the spot. The shock was then doubled when Martin Tuohy got number two on nineteen minutes, but there was relief when Scott Kemp halved the deficit eight minutes before the break. There was little relief at the end though, as that was the last goal, and Charlee Hughes saw red before Rovers got to celebrate a famous win. The Jammers are down to eighth, Rovers up to sixteenth.

Brentwood Town have been in super form recently, and were soon ahead against Heybridge Swifts, Freddie Gard putting them ahead on sixteen minutes. That was the only goal of the game, Town in ninth- and that was their EIGHTH successive victory in all competitions, with Dulwich Hamlet next up at the Brentwood Arena in the FA Trophy.

Hullbridge Sports haven’t been able to find a win this season, and their hopes didn’t seem to have improved when Basildon United went ahead on twelve minutes, Ruben Carvalho with the goal. Into the second half and the Bees went down to ten men with the dismissal of Neville Revilino Nza, but it didn’t matter in the end. The Bees climb above Witham and out of the bottom three, whilst Sports are marooned at the bottom, six points behind Romford.
