From The Den to Wembley...

By Ian Townsend

...and Tonbridge Angels, Herne Bay, Sheppey United and more! A new book by former Isthmian Tommy Sampson is out now!

Tommy Sampson was an uncompromising centre half for Millwall and then Dartford, and then had a management career which encompassed a collection of our clubs- and he's written a new book about his footballing life which we think you might want to take a look at.

Entitled 'From The Den to Wembley,' Tommy's new book looks particularly at his transition from playing to management, charting the highs and lows of a management career that included spells in charge of Tonbridge Angels, Sheppey United and Herne Bay. It gets its title because in 2000 Tommy managed Deal Town all the way to victory in the FA Vase Final at Wembley, and that's where the book reaches a natural end- although given he then went on to manage Ashford Town (Kent), Boreham Wood, Dartford and Redhill we suspect there will be a sequel at some point!

The book adds to its Millwall flavour by including contributions from former Den favourites Alan Walker (who of course went on to manage Sittingbourne, Tonbridge Angels and Maidstone United) and Steve Lovell (who of course was Ramsgate manager not so long ago, and previously managed Hastings United and Sittingbourne, amongst others).

The very best of luck to Tommy- here's hoping it sells by the lorry load!
