Fundraising fixture for fans

Football Beyond Borders, Hamlet's official charity partner for the 2016-17 season, and the Dog Kennell Hill Adventure Playground, their neighbours, are set for a cash boost after the south London club's officials designated the fixture a "pay what you want" match for fans at the turnstiles.

The initiative is the third the south Londoners have staged since 2014, with every penny after matchdays costs going to the two organisations. To raise as much as possible, Hamlet are hoping fans will choose to pay the £10 admission normally charged as well as donating to bucket collections during the game as they've done in the past.

Dulwich Hamlet chairman Liam Hickey said: “The local community support us all year through the turnstiles, this is our little way of paying them back in kind. In the olden days our club founder ‘Pa’ Wilson made it a cornerstone of the club to support local causes and we are merely continuing that tradition.”

Football committee member for community initiatives Mishi Morath said: “The beauty of a game like this is that it helps local causes dear to us, and it also gives locals the opportunity to support The Hamlet while supporting local charities at the same time.”

George Parnavelas, a member of the club's committee community team, said all donations, however large or small, would be welcomed and appreciated.

He added: “It promises to be a great day, and the beauty is it doesn’t matter if you donate over the odds, or just a penny. It’s attractive to all, rich or poor, and it will hopefully encourage a few more Worthing fans to travel up on the day too."
