Gorleston win leaves Sports on the brink

Hullbridge Sports needed an unlikely set of results to survive prior to last night’s match with Gorleston, and now they need divine intervention as the Greens continued their fine end to the season with victory.

Connor Ingram put the visitors ahead on twenty five minutes- his twelfth of the season- Only for Adam Copley to quickly equalise for the hosts. Shortly after the break Craig Parker restored the visitors lead, but a penalty from Martin Tuohy ten minutes later restored parity once more. Twenty two minutes from time Ingram had the last word, ensuring his side’s third win in a row- and that they head towards the last game of the season with only two defeats from their last ten matches, and those defeats coming against our top two. Sports now find themselves six points away from the possible salvation of a relegation play off place, with two matches to go- and with a significantly inferior goal difference than Coggeshall Town, who currently occupy that final play off place.

At the other end of the table Lowestoft Town had to come from behind three times to earn a point against Brentwood Town. Ross Wall put the travelling Blues ahead on eighteen minutes, and then we had a spell of three goals in five minutes, Sam Johnson levelling for the Trawler Boys on thirty four minutes, Jack Adlington immediately restoring Brentwood’s lead, and Kyle Haylock equalising once more for the hosts.

Two minutes after the restart Brentwood were ahead again, Bryan Ifeanyi restoring their advantage, but the points were shared when Josh Harvey scored from the spot with seventeen minutes left. Lowestoft are third- but don’t yet know whether they will face Heybridge Swifts, Grays Athletic or Felixstowe and Walton United in Tuesday’s Play Off Semi-Final.

Wroxham’s last home match of the season ended in defeat, Michael Salako scoring the only goal of the game for Maldon and Tiptree, who are fourteenth.
