Hastings honour former player

The Elphinstone Road Stand will have a new name for the new season

Hastings United have announced that, following a supporters vote, the Elphinstone Road Stand will be renamed after former player Steve Smith.

Smith made more than two hundred and fifty appearances for Hastings, back in the days when they were called Hastings Town. He also turned out for St Leonards Stamco, Bexhill Town, Rye United, Folkestone Invicta, Margate, Lewes, Eastbourne Borough, Southwick and Hollington United.

Steve was a no-nonsense defender and midfielder, tenacious and hard working, and was very popular with the Pilot Field faithful. He was tragically killed in a motoring accident almost thirteen years ago, when he was only thirty six years old. His memory obviously lives on amongst the United faithful, and deservedly so.

The renaming ceremony will take place at the start of next season.
