Lucas and Luke compete to be crowned King Hawk!

Whitehawk announce their award winners

Whitehawk last night held a socially-distanced end of season Q&A session, and used the occasion to announce which players had picked up awards for the sadly truncated 2019-20 campaign.

There was much to celebrate. The Hawks were in fourth place in the South East Division when the campaign came to an end, only six points off the top- and had the second best home record (behind Hastings United), the second-fewest number of defeats (ditto), and the second highest number of goals scored (behind Ashford United).

Four awards were announced, but there were only two winners. The first two prizes went to long serving skipper Lucas Rodrigues. The player, who made thirty one appearances last season, scored thirteen goals- including a hat trick in a remarkable comeback win at Three Bridges, a match in which he came on in the fifty first minute with his side three-one down and had a hat trick twenty six minutes later, steering them to five-three victory. Lucas picked up Players Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year.

The other winner was Luke Emberson. Luke, who made twenty four appearances in defence for the Hawks and scored a goal in their final match, an eight-one win over Three Bridges (Bridges must have been sick of the sight of them), first picked up the Managers Player of the Year Award, and then followed that with the Young Player of the Year Award.

Congratulations to both players. We look forward to more of the same next season, whenever that might be.
