Hornets, Casuals, Bowers and Sports triumph on a night of cup replay success

By Ian Townsend

We had a night of FA Cup away wins, whilst in the League almost all of the points stayed at home! It's our round up, with photos and some video.

Emirates FA Cup

Horsham came close to defeating National League South Eastbourne Borough on Saturday, letting slip a two goal half time lead. They headed to Priory Lane for a replay last night, decidedly the underdogs- and again they took an early lead, but on this occasion they held it for eighty five minutes to emerge triumphant. Eddie Dsane was the hero, intercepting an errant back pass, rounding the keeper and firing home from a tight angle- but enough of our blathering, you can just watch the best bits of the action yourself, below!

The Hornets will host Woking, currently in eighth place in the National League, in the Fourth Qualifying Round.

It was a night of away wins, and the next one came to Bedfont Sports. Sports, like the Hornets, let a half time lead slip on Saturday, and had a rather longer journey as they travelled to Southampton to take on Sholing. Midway through the first half Darryl Sanders- with his fifth of the season- gave them the lead, and although the Boatmen equalised just before the break, two minutes after it Ricky Wellard got what proved to be the winner, earning Sports a home time with Kidderminster Harriers, who are currently seventh in National League North and who defeated Ware last night.

We had two all-Isthmian ties. At Wingate & Finchley Corinthian-Casuals continued their impressive campaign, as they took on the Blues for the third time this season and finally got the better of them after two draws. They did it in style, Warren Mfula giving them an early opener- his eighth of the season- before two goals in two minutes just after the break, scored by Elliott Bolton and Bobby Mills- wrapped up the victory. Casuals will welcome St Albans City to Tolworth, City currently eighth in National League South. Our headline image is from Andy Nunn- see more here, later.

Bowers and Pitsea let a two goal lead slip against Hornchurch on Saturday, but they had no intention of doing it again. Danny Norton gave them the lead nine minutes into the second half, silencing the home crowd, and Bradley Sach doubled the advantage ten minutes from time. Bowers will host Aldershot Town, currently third from bottom in the National League.

Kingstonian remain at the top of the Pitching In Premier Division, but they have seen much of their advantage whittled away as they lost for the second time in three matches at Enfield Town last night. The Towners climbed to third as a result, two points behind the side they vanquished, first half goals from Percy Kiangebeni and former K Andre Coker making sure of victory at the QEII Stadium. Bognor Regis Town are up to second, courtesy of a hard-fought three-two win over an improving Leatherhead. The Tanners took the lead midway through the first half courtesy of Jack Skinner, but after the break the Rocks finally got going, goals from James Crane, Nathan Odokonyero and Jordy Mongoy putting them three-one up with a quarter of an hour to go. Adam Green reduced the arrears six minutes from time and made the closing stages interesting, but the hosts held out. Martin Denyer took the photographs, and you can see all of them here.

Pitching In Isthmian North Division

Maldon and Tiptree seem to be getting back to form, picking up their second win in a row and moving up to third place as they defeated Barking. The lead came four minutes before the break, Malachi Napa opening the scoring, and although George Purcell equalised for the Blues eight minutes after the restart- his sixth of the season- the winner came thirteen minutes from time, Shomari Barnwell popping up with his third in four matches.

Aveley got back to winning ways at Brentwood Town, moving up to eighth. There was only one goal, and it came from the spot, Shad Ngandu with his second successful spot kick of the campaign so far securing the points. Brentwood are fifteenth.

Pitching In Isthmian South Central

Hanwell Town climbed to sixth place as Ogo Obi picked up his second successive hat trick in a five-one win over Sutton Common Rovers. Obi, who also scored three against Staines Town last time out, opened the scoring just before the half hour, got his second in the sixty fourth minute and his third three minutes later- that’s eight for the season for the Geordies striker. In between his first and second, Dwayne Duncan had made it two-nil before the break, and Jack Beadle three-nil nine minutes after the restart.

Rovers consolation came two minutes from time, and was scored by Tyrell Butler- his third of the campaign.

Pitching In Isthmian South East

Cray Valley PM moved level on points with leaders Haywards Heath Town with victory over Phoenix Sports, but they had to work hard for it, Marcel Barrington getting the only goal of the game fourteen minutes from time. That was the Millers first home fixture since August 30th, and their sixth win in seven matches.

VCD Athletic are just behind the Millers in the table, but there is a four point gap between second and third. Athletic inflicted a customary midweek away defeat on Burgess Hill Town, the Hillians without a midweek away win in four years (according to their programme editor Colin Bowman, who for some reason wore a lucky sombrero to Oakwood, not that it was all that lucky). The two goals came early, Anthony Adesite opening the scoring after twelve minutes and Jamie Splatt doubling the lead on twenty seven, and the visitors response was blunted by seeing Scott Kirkwood depart with a red card eleven minutes after the break.

Three Bridges have only lost two of their nine matches, and last night climbed to eighth in the table with victory over Chichester City. The match had but one goal, and it came ten minutes from time, Mason Doughty turning what had looked like becoming a sixth draw from nine into a second victory instead.
