It’s a South Central and Semi-Final night!

By Ian Townsend

We’ve three matches in Pitching In Isthmian South Central, important at both ends of the table- and the small matter of a seaside Semi-Final

Two defeats in a row for Southall have allowed Chertsey Town to create a six point lead at the top of the Pitching In Isthmian South Central table, but The All will hope to cut that in half tonight as Hanworth Villa come to call. The Villains have also lost their way a little of late, losing their last three, and with a sixteen point gap between themselves and the play off places they graced so successfully last year really need to start picking up points if they are to be involved this time around. When the sides met in October, Villa came from three goals down to take a point in a three-all draw, but they’ll hope not to give their opponents such a head start this time around! Last season’s meetings saw two two-nil wins, one for each side.

South Park Reigate have seen their play off chances slip after winning only one of their last five- although only one of the other four ended in defeat. The Sparks find themselves thirteen points away from the promised land, whilst their hosts tonight, Sutton Common Rovers, are ten points and six places further back. Rovers have won two of their last three- both at home- and will be delighted to be back in Whyteleafe. The Sparks won the first meeting between the sides this season by two goals to one, and lost four-nil when they met in February 2023.

Next we focus on the other end of the table, as Guernsey welcome Chipstead. The sides are separated by one place and one point, the Chips in eighteenth, and both will hope to pull themselves further away from the drop zone- the Green Lions are seven points clear of the bottom two, the Chips by eight. Chipstead are in rather dire form, with four points earned from the last thirty available, whilst the Green Lions have lost two of their last three but only one of their last six at home. Chipstead won the first meeting between the sides this season by four goals to one, but haven’t won on any of their six trips to the Channel Islands.

The Reposs Isthmian Women’s Cup has reached the Semi-Final stage, and at Nyewood Lane Bognor Regis Town and Ashford United face off for the chance to take on Billericay Town in the Final. The Rockettes narrowly defeated Guernsey to reach this stage, whilst their opponents walloped Sittingbourne by five goals to nil.

Bognor currently sit in ninth place in the London & South East Regional Women’s Division One South, and have actually been better on the road so far this season than on their own patch; whilst United are in the Division above, so must be favourites to reach the Final. The visitors have not been in the best of form of late, however, winning only one of their last seven league matches. They fell two-one against Millwall Lionesses on Sunday.
