It’s Premier Play Off Wednesday!

By Ian Townsend

We’ve a North London derby and Chats v Hornets, as four evenly matched sides try to navigate a route to Monday’s Final- and the National League

With only three points between our four sides our Pitching In Isthmian Premier Semi-Finals are expected to be rather close affairs.

Chatham Town, who ended the regular campaign in second place, scored more goals than any other side than champions Hornchurch, whilst their visitors, Horsham, had the Division’s best defence with the exception of the Urchins- but any notion that we’ll just have a match of attackers v defenders was perhaps dispelled when the sides met at the Bauvill only eleven days ago, a match in which the Hornets triumphed by three goals to one. The first match between the two ended as a two-two draw, so perhaps the visitors will consider themselves favourites, but they’ll need to guard against over confidence as the Chats have been irresistible on occasions this season and will be determined to exact immediate revenge for that recent defeat- and to follow Aveley’s example from last season and earn a second successive promotion.

At the Dave Bryant Stadium Enfield Town and Wingate and Finchley will look for North London bragging rights and the chance to reach Step Two for the first time in their history. This is the Towners second Play Off tilt in three years, and third since they joined our top flight in 2012; whilst the travelling Blues last reached this stage in 2016-17. Both sides have had superb seasons, although Town have taken four points from their visitors so will start as favourites. Indeed, Wingate and Finchley have only defeated the Towners once in their last ten attempts- but there will never be a better time to improve that record!

Both matches kick off at 7.45 PM- and the Final will take place on Monday, at the home of the highest placed winner.
