Jammers to head to Leyton Orient- Chichester City are already in Round Two!

By Ian Townsend

The BBC broadcast the draw for the FA Cup First Round live from Park Drive, home of Maldon & Tiptree. Here are the highlights.

On a Saturday marred by events at Haringey Borough it would have been easy to forget that four of our clubs knocked out higher division opposition to reach the FA Cup First Round. Maldon & Tiptree, Chichester City, Carshalton Athletic and Kingstonian were the victorious quartet who knew that, come what may, they'd be lining up in the competition once more on the weekend of Saturday 9th November.

Another of our clubs, Potters Bar Town, will replay at Barnet tomorrow- and as yet, of course, we don't know what Haringey's future in the competition looks like.

It was announced last week that the last side drawn out of the velvet bag would receive a bye into the Second Round, courtesy of the sad demise of Bury FC- but focus tonight was on the big names joining the competition for the first time. Our clubs were given the following numbers:

63 HARINGEY BOROUGH OR YEOVIL TOWN
71 CHICHESTER CITY
73 MALDON & TIPTREE
74 POTTERS BAR TOWN OR BARNET
78 KINGSTONIAN
79 CARSHALTON ATHLETIC

Some of the big names joining the draw included Ipswich Town (21), Sunderland (43), Bolton Wanderers (4), Portsmouth (35) and Coventry City (12)- all former winners of the competition- so there was a great deal of anticipation from Essex to Sussex and from Surrey to London and Hertfordshire as Karen Carney and Jermaine Beckford prepared to rattle those balls. Mind you, a great deal of that anticipation was at Park Drive, for as well as players, officials and fans from the Jammers, Chichester, the Scholars and The Robins were also represented.

So, eyes down, look in, and here's the draw!

Haringey Borough or Yeovil Town v Hartlepool United
Chichester City got a bye straight through to the Second Round!
Leyton Orient v Maldon and Tiptree
Potters Bar Town or Barnet v Fleetwood Town
Macclesfield Town v Kingstonian
Carshalton Athletic v Boston United

MATCHES TO BE PLAYED 8 NOVEMBER – 11 NOVEMBER 2019. WINNERS WILL PICK UP THIRTY SIX THOUSAND POUNDS.
