Premier Tuesday

By Ian Townsend

We've a number of matches tonight at the top of the Premier Division, a host of Velocity Trophy games, and the small matter of an FA Cup replay

We were scheduled to have an (almost) full Premier Division programme tonight, but the FA Cup has got in the way a little- however we still have six matches to look forward to, and fixtures in the South East Division and Velocity Trophy.

We'll look first at the higher reaches of the Premier. Folkestone Invicta fell to home defeat on Saturday at the hands of Bognor Regis Town- their first home defeat of the season- but quickly have the chance to put that right as East Thurrock United arrive at the BuildKent Stadium. The fifth place Rocks will be no pushovers, however, as they are on a great run of form which has seen them lose only one of their last six.

Any slip could see Invicta overtaken by Horsham and Enfield Town, but both have tricky fixtures of their own. The Hornets host Cray Wanderers at the Camping World Community Stadium, and their visitors haven't yet lost an away match all season, and won't be short on confidence as they arrive in Sussex having won there as recently as Saturday, when they defeated Lewes. That said, defeat at Bishop's Stortford apart the Hornets have been in magnificent form, so this looks to have the makings of a great match.

The Towners, in third, host fourth place Hornchurch. The home side should be full of confidence; the've lost only one league match this season and that was more than two months ago, and head into this game on the back of six straight victories. They shouldn't take anything for granted, however, as the Urchins, despite losing two of their last three, have been superb so far this season and will be looking to bounce back, so long as they don't all have hangovers from 'Ornchurch Fest on Sunday.

Sixth play ninth as Worthing host a Carshalton Athletic side rather preoccupied by FA Cup matters of late. The Mackerel Men have only one defeat in their last six, whilst the Robins have a similar record but have drawn their last three league matches, so will be looking to pick up three points instead of the usual one.

Thirteenth play seventeenth as Margate take on Merstham, but the inconsistent Blues, who have a record of win-lose-win-lose-win-lose over their last six league matches, must be favourites given the Moatsiders record during the same period is draw- lose-lose-lose-lose-lose.

Bishop's Stortford, who got back to winning ways against Horsham after four straight defeats, travel to Wingate & Finchley, who last won a league match on August Bank Holiday Monday, but did win 6-0 in their county cup fixture last week.

In the FA Cup, Barnet will travel to the Hive to take on Barnet in their Fourth Qualifying Round replay. The Scholars got a late, late equaliser in front of the TV cameras on Saturday, and have the prize of a Second Round tie against Fleetwood Town to look forward to should they win.

In the South East Division, Cray Valley PM will go to the top of the table if they can defeat Whyteleafe. Leafe are in sixteenth, but they've played less than half the matches of many of their rivals due to their FA Cup heroics and absolutely should not be written off as they've lost only one of their four matches, and that was by a solitary goal against title favourites Hastings United.

We also have a collection of Velocity Trophy matches. Find the full programme here.
