Kennett swaps top job at county rivals

Trevor Kennett has been unveiled as the new chairman of Hythe Town.

Kennett, pictured, was named by officials at the Ryman South’s Cannons on Monday night. His first job at the Reachfields Stadium will be to appoint a new manager following the resignation of Scott Porter last week after the club’s eighth placed finish to the campaign.

Kennett was chairman of Hythe's county and Ryman rivals Herne Bay until March when he resigned following a disagreement regarding the wishes of directors and the management committee in relation to an internal disciplinary matter.

He replaces David Skeel who has filled in as acting chairman since John Dowsett stepped down in December for personal reasons. He succeeded Paul Markland – now Hythe’s president – last April.

In a statement on the club's website, Kennett said: "I am personally very much looking forward to being part of the new Hythe Town family and to a positive Ryman League campaign next season."

Hythe Town officials also confirmed that they expect to appoint their new manager by the start of next week.

"The club have been delighted with both the volume and quality of applicants for the vacant position of first team manager and fully expect to make an appointment early next week," said the club.
