Robert Dyas Ryman Veterans Cup

The Middlesex Wanderers have been winning trophies around the world for years and now they’ve added the Robert Dyas Ryman Veterans Cup to their collection.

Sporting ambassadors for more than 100 years, the Wanderers did it the hard way last Wednesday night at Aveley’s The Mill Field when they came from behind to beat Kingstonian 3-1 and lift the trophy, pictured.

The K’s veterans, managed by former striker and fans favourite Eddie Akuamoah, were aiming to get their hands on the trophy for the third time and they took the lead in the 62nd minute with a goal from Conrad Kane.

The Wanderers hit back five minutes later, Brian Hammatt equalising from short range after their opponents failed to clear a corner. Their second arrived in the 79th minute from another dead ball when K’s failed to clear a free-kick and the ball bounced off the unfortunate Julian Sills and into his own net.

The cup winners, managed by Eddie McCluskey, completed the scoring in the final minute when Paul Cobb broke away and won his one-on-one with keeper Steve Davis.

Kingstonian beat Northwood and the Wanderers overcame Aveley in the semi-finals of this year’s competition which was sponsored for the first time by Robert Dyas, a subsidiary of the Ryman Group, after the Isthmian League’s title sponsors expanded their 19 year sponsorship deal last summer.

As well as the Ryman Veterans Cup, the homewares retailer has also sponsored the Robert Dyas League Cup, the Robert Dyas Disability Cup and the Robert Dyas Youth Play-off Cup for the first time.

Lingerie specialists Boux Avenue, another Ryman Group company, took over the sponsorship of the Ryman Womens Cup, won last Thursday night by Gillingham Ladies at Chatham Town's London Road.
