Late show brings Horsham victory, Rams up to third, and Hamlet progress on penalties

By Ian Townsend

The Hornets win in added time, a goal in each half is enough for Ramsgate, whilst Dulwich Hamlet progress in the Reposs Isthmian Women’s Cup- it's our Wednesday round up

Pitching In Isthmian Premier saw Kingstonian welcome Horsham to Imperial Fields. Andy Somo made a breakthrough for the K’s seven minutes into the second half, and they soon came close to a second, Hornets keeper Lewis Carey keeping his side in the game, but the visitors hit back to level twelve minutes from time, Daniel Ajakaiye finding the top corner. It looked as if the sides would have to settle for a point each, but deep into added time the visitors were still pushing for three, and they got them- a cross from Lucas Rodrigues converted by Shamir Fenelon.

Horsham climb to sixth place, the Hornets outside the top five only on goal difference. The K’s remain in nineteenth.

On the Kent coast, Ramsgate welcomed Horndean in Pitching In Isthmian South East. It was the Rams sixth league match of the season, but their seventeenth in all competitions, such has been their success in Cup and Trophy- but they didn’t look at all tired by their endeavours and a goal in each half saw them climb to third place. It took until six minutes before the break for their opening goal to arrive, Alfie Paxman firing home a free kick, and coincidentally Paxman had only been on the field for six minutes when he scored it! The Rams had to overcome more stubborn Horndean resistance before they got a second and made sure of victory. That second came from Joe Taylor, who delivered his EIGHTEENTH of the campaign in his fifteenth appearance- and it saw the Rams climb up to third place in the table, eight points behind leaders Three Bridges with three games in hand.

The Deans remain in sixteenth.

The Reposs Isthmian Women’s Cup Second Round brought us us a tie between Dulwich Hamlet and Enfield Town- and it was a match that had to be settled by a penalty shootout. The visitors went ahead after only ten minutes courtesy of an own goal, but Hamlet levelled twelve minutes after the restart, Lucy Monkman with the equaliser.

Neither side could find a winning goal, and the match went to penalties, Hamlet holding their nerve to win four-one.
