Lucky number seven for Invicta- whilst the Towners cut Worthing’s lead to two points

By Ian Townsend

It’s our round up of a day which also saw another win for Hornchurch, and victories for Carshalton, Regent, Haringey Borough, and Wingate & Finchley.

Folkestone Invicta got the first Premier Division goal of the day as Luke Wanadio put them in front at Potters Bar Town, and it was the start of a stripey avalanche as within twenty two minutes they’d added two more, David Smith getting goals nineteen and twenty for the season. By half time it was four-nil, Adam Yusuff with that one, and straight after the restart Wanadio made it five.

Wanadio had his hat trick fifteen minutes from time as Invicta made it six, and right at the end Ian Draycott got number seven to send Invicta back into the top five- whilst the Scholars slip to nineteenth on the back of their worst ever Isthmian defeat.

Corinthian-Casuals took on leaders Worthing for the fourth time this season. With one win each and a draw from the first three we didn’t expect Casuals to be overawed by the visitors reputation, and when Mo Diallo got his first goal for his new club- Casuals- against his former club after half an hour it seemed we were right. The Mackerel Men hit back straight after the restart, Dayshonne Golding with the equaliser, and that turned out to be that, as Worthing’s lead at the top was cut to two points. Bobby Mills hit the bar for the hosts, causing much excitement- as you can see, for Casuals Pablo- a dog with his own Instagram account- @king_pablo_2022!

The side cutting that lead was Enfield Town. The Towners have Mo Faal- as usual- in fine form, and the striker got his thirty second goal of the season to open the scoring against Margate seven minutes before the break. Jake Cass got his fourth Towners goal eight minutes after the restart to make it two, and then Faal broke through the Gate once more to make it three. Faal then got his hat trick- goal thirty four- from the spot in the last minute to make it four-nil, and given he'd already hit the bar, it could have been worse still for the visitors.

Leatherhead and Bishop's Stortford couldn’t find a goal in the first half, nor the second. That point takes the Blues up to third, and makes it three undefeated for the Tanners.

Hornchurch, our form side, were hosting Lewes on Bridge Avenue. The Rooks took just six minutes to go ahead, Deshane Dalling with the goal- but the Urchins didn’t let their heads drop and drew level thirteen minutes later, Charlie Ruff with the equaliser- his ninth goal of the season- before going ahead just before the break, Tom Wraight scoring for the third consecutive match. Things got even more difficult for the Rooks when Mitchell Nelson was dismissed just after the break, and the Urchins finished things off six minutes from time when Ola Ogunwamide made it three.

The Rooks fall to fourth, the Urchins only two points behind them in sixth- and with two games in hand.

Merstham and Kingstonian shared a goal-free first forty five minutes, and then a goal free second forty five minutes. The K’s drop to seventh, the Moatsiders are fifteenth.

Carshalton Athletic hosted Cheshunt, whose form has taken a tumble of late, and their bad run looked as if it might continue when Daniel Bassett’s twelfth goal of the season put the Robins ahead just before the quarter hour. Another Daniel, Bennett, made it two twenty minutes after the restart, and although Jamie Reynolds got one back just before the end it was three points Athletic- and five without a win for the Ambers.

East Thurrock United welcomed Haringey Borough, the Rocks desperate for a win after four consecutive defeats. The opening goal went the other way, however, David Olufemi putting Borough ahead midway through the first half- and it was two-nil before the break, Rakim Richards doubling the visitors advantage.

Ollie Miles cut the deficit just after the restart, but the next goal also went to Borough, Sami Bessadi restoring their two goal lead- and all three points took the trip back to Coles Park.

Bowers & Pitsea got back to winning ways as they defeated Cheshunt in midweek, and were quickly ahead on the road once more, Jamie Dicks converting a free kick after just ten minutes. That looked as if it was that- until Lee Harding equalised for the Hornets right at the end, delighting the Hornet pictured and his faithful followers! Image courtesy of Lardy Army.

Wingate & Finchley broke the deadlock just after the hour mark against Bognor Regis Town, Kavan Cotter opening the scoring. The Blues sealed the win just before the end, Theo Ofori with number two. The hosts are sixteenth, the Sussex Rocks twelfth and watching their play-off hopes sail off on the tide.

After a goalless first half, fans of Brightlingsea Regent and Cray Wanderers saw their first goal with only nineteen minutes remaining- and it went to the hosts, Aaron Blair making the breakthrough. That turned out to be the only goal, and it saw Regent climb to seventeenth.
