Mitre deal makes it a new ball game

By David Watters

The Ryman League’s clubs and their fans can start looking forward to benefitting from a new matchball and benchwear sponsorship partnership with leading international sports brand Mitre.

Announced last Sunday at a meeting of the Ryman League’s 72 clubs at the Thurrock Hotel before being officially confirmed on Saturday night, Mitre have agreed a four year deal with a one year extension option.

Thanks to Mitre, established in 1817 and still the world’s oldest manufacturers of footballs as part of the Pentland Group of companies, the Ryman League’s stars will be playing with the British firm’s latest high-tech and FIFA approved ‘hyperseam’ footballs when they kick-off in the 2017-18 season.

Mitre are producing a yellow-based coloured ball for use throughout the season to reflect the Isthmian’s colours and Ryman League chairman Nick Robinson is delighted to be teaming up with the leading brand and official suppliers to numerous competitions around the world, including the English Football League for more than 40 years, Scottish Premier League and Welsh Premier League in the UK.

Mitre are also the official matchball and benchwear partners of the Southern League and Robinson said: “We have been very impressed with the Mitre Company and the quality of the clothing as well as the match ball is extremely good.

“This is a great step forward for the Ryman League to be associated with Mitre. Given the match ball they will produce, we will use a yellow coloured ball throughout the season rather than changing from a white to yellow ball for the winter months.”

Ryman League chairman Nick Robinson is pictured shaking hands on the new partnership with Chris Degnan, head of sales for Pentland and Mitre.
