Moles bury Angels!

By Ian Townsend

A magnificent Cup win for Binfield, whilst Northwood continue their one hundred percent record and Basingstoke hit five. We've also wins for Marlow and Hanworth Villa in our South Central league and cup round up

Binfield were in magnificent form as they welcomed National League South side Tonbridge Angels. Unbeaten, five consecutive wins, six wins out of seven, five clean sheets in a row, AB1 Goalkeeping Golden Gloves Award- it had been rather close to a perfect start to the season for the Moles, and it was about to get better still. After a goalless first half the Moles went to town after the break, firing home four goals without reply against a side two levels higher, Sean Moore, Johnny Efedje, Lewis Pegg and Brad Pagliaroli putting them into the Third Qualifying Round for the first time in their history.

Eastbourne Borough of National League South was the destination for Uxbridge, and the travelling Red Army went home with nothing to celebrate after a two-nil defeat.

Walton & Hersham v Chatham Town was broadcast live by the BBC, so you may already know what happened! The Swans opened the scoring through Jordan Adeyemi on seventeen minutes, and added a second seven minutes later, Arsen Ujkaj doubling their tally. Both sides were in fine form, and the Chats bounced back, Jack Evans reducing the arrears just before the break, and we were off to a replay when Fabio Saraiva got the equaliser thirteen minutes before the end. One thousand and twenty watched on inside the ground, we haven’t managed to count all those watching on the iPlayer!

Westfield welcomed Carshalton Athletic, and the Robins emerged with victory after a hard-fought ninety minutes. Aaron Smith-Joseph opened the scoring for the visitors just before the break, but Nathaniel Mensah got the hosts level from the spot with twenty one minutes left. Parity was short lived, however, Ollie Cook getting the winner just four minutes later.

PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN SOUTH CENTRAL

First took on third as Chertsey Town arrived at Northwood- the Curfews aware that they could replace Woods at the top of the table if they picked up three points. Northwood, however, weren’t prepared to give up their perfect league record and won their fifth match in a row- three-nil. Josh Helmore continued his fine scoring record with a fourth of the season- this one in the very first minute- whilst Sidney Ibie added two more, his sixth and seventh of the campaign- the last of those coming in the very last minute after Lee Lewis had given the visitors hope. Woods now have a five point lead at the top.

Basingstoke Town welcomed an Ashford Town (Middx) side who could have moved up into second place- but instead the Tangerines were firmly peeled, as Stoke finally hit the heights, firing home five goals without reply. Bradley Wilson got three of them- the second, fourth and fifth- whilst George Reid got the other two.

Marlow got back to form and climbed to third with a three-nil win over Chipstead. An own goal gave them an early lead, but they were unable to add to it until fourteen minutes from time, when Dawid Rogalski made it five for the season. Junaid Bell ended the Chips resistance in the eighty third minute.

Guernsey played host to Leatherhead in an all-green clash in the Channel Islands. The Tanners left with a point, Dave Tarpey equalising from the spot after Sam Murray had given the Green Lions the lead. Six hundred and fifty nine watched on.

Hanworth Villa, big winners in the FA Trophy at Northwood in midweek, finally got their first league win after drawing three of their four league matches- but visitors Thatcham Town will have to wait for their first victory. It took only a minute for the Villains to go ahead, Charlie Ten-Grotenhuis opening the scoring, and when Sam Merson added a second just after the half hour they looked comfortable, only for Ashley Howell to reply for the Kingfishers from the spot just before the break. A minute from time Jonathan Hippolyte looked to have made the match safe for the hosts, but the visitors then pulled it back to three-two, Taylor Harry giving them a few seconds of hope.

Southall and Tooting & Mitcham United delivered all the action in the first half as they drew one-one. Luke Heneghan gave the hosts the lead on thirty two minutes, Jordan Clarke equalised for the visitors just before the break, and that was that.
