Moles, Curfews and Marlow look to close the gap on Woods

By Ian Townsend

Binfield, Chertsey Town and Marlow battle for second place- whilst the Swans go again in the Cup

With leaders Northwood’s match postponed due to opponents Walton & Hersham’s cup involvement, Binfield have the chance to close the gap at the top of the table to two points should they win at Thatcham Town. The Moles- the magnificent Moles- walloped National League South side Tonbridge Angels four-nil in the Cup on Saturday, and will be full of confidence after winning their last six matches in all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in each of them, and scoring eighteen goals in the process. The Kingfishers haven’t yet won a league match this season, and will have to hope that the Moles suffer a cup hangover.

Marlow, level on points with Binfield, are on the road to Ashford Town. The Tangerines must be smarting after being thrashed at Basingstoke Town on Saturday, but had been in good form previously and will hope to recapture that; whilst Marlow’s three-nil win over Chipstead saw them back to form after three defeats.

Two of our promotion favourites meet as Chertsey Town welcome Basingstoke Town. The Curfews have gone four matches without a win and lost at the leaders on Saturday, whilst Stoke put a three match losing run behind them with that five goal hammering of Ashford Town. Last season the two sides met three times, the Curfews winning twice and drawing the other and ending with a nine-two aggregate in their favour. The last of those meetings was a four-one win for today’s hosts in the Play Off Semi Final, and Stoke fans would love some revenge.

Leatherhead and Southall meet at Fetcham Grove. The Tanners have won only one of their five league matches this season, and their supporters will hope that tonight is the night for lift off; whilst their visitors have drawn their last two league matches, with a penalty shootout win in the Trophy fitting between them.

Westfield and Uxbridge will both look to get back to winning ways after Cup defeats on Saturday. Both sides know that a win could put them back in the top five, and both have had some rather positive moments so far this season. The visitors took four points from their two meetings last season.

Tooting & Mitcham United welcome Hanworth Villa to Imperials Fields. The Terrors haven’t been all that terrifying this season, apart from perhaps to their own supporters, and have won only one of their five matches; whilst the Villains have become our draw specialists but did get their first league win of the campaign last Saturday, and notably knocked leaders Northwood out of the FA Trophy last Tuesday night.

In the Cup, Chatham Town welcome Walton & Hersham in a replay after coming from two down to draw with the Swans on Saturday.
