No more Magic for Romford

Boss Martin 'sacks himself'- and the club cry Fowell

Romford have announced that manager Paul 'Magic' Martin has taken the decision to leave the club- and that they have quickly appointed former Basildon United boss Jon Fowell in his place.

Martin returned to the club as 'interim' boss just before Christmas, but has been unable to halt their slide. Speaking to the club website, he explained:

"It is with a heavy heart that I have resigned my position as Romford FC manager, in effect I have decided to sack myself. I was asked by Steve and Colin to come back and help the club out, but unfortunately both results and performances have not gone my way.

I have to be honest with myself, and since returning it has not happened for me. More Ted Lasso than Magic Martin."

He will be remembered as a hero at the club nonetheless, for the fifteen successful years he brought them during his first spell as manager.

Martin's replacement, Jon Fowell, left Basildon United in January after little more than two months in charge. He was previously the manager at Clapton and at Ilford, and a coach at Wimbledon, Chelsea, Leyton Orient and- most importantly- Enfield Town.

As a player, he spent time with Grays Athletic, Aldershot Town and Kingstonian, amongst others.
