No more Tangerine Dean

Dean Greenwood steps down at Ashford Town

Ashford Town have announced the departure of manager Dean Greenwood, who has decided after two months in charge that he'd rather be a coach or an Assistant than the manager.

Dean, who stepped in to replace Luke Tuffs when the latter departed to take on the challenge of reversing Leatherhead's fortunes, said his goodbyes on social media:

'Good luck to Ashford Town for the rest of the season. Management just isn't for me at this moment in time. Results have not been good enough but I've worked hard to make sure we were stable, and put together a decent bunch of young players who are capable of good things.'

The club responded:

'After two months in charge Dean has decided that his future lies on the coaching/assistant side which he loves dearly. And we wholeheartedly support his decision.

We couldn’t be more thankful to him for stepping up after the departure of Luke Tuffs back in early January. His work has kept the continuity at the club along with the good atmosphere that was already building. During the past couple of months we have lost two of our strikers, including our top goalscorer, to league leading clubs, but Deano has brought in some good young players to help us look forward. His work has been hard but that’s testament to the guy that he is.'

Assistant Paul McCarthy steps up to steer the side until the end of the season.
