October's top stoppers unveiled!

By David Watters

Billericay Town's Jack Giddens, Danny Bracken at Corinthian-Casuals and Maldon & Tiptree's Daniel Wilks are October's winners of the Ryman League's Precision Goalkeeping Golden Gloves awards.

The stoppers were named on Wednesday as the latest winners of the monthly ‘safe hands’ honours in the Ryman Premier, Ryman South and Ryman North divisions which are sponsored by Nottingham-based Reydon Sports PLC, the UK's largest sports and leisure wholesale and distribution company.

Through their Precision Goalkeeping brand, the keepers can all look forward to receiving a pair of Precision Goalkeeping gloves provided by ProKit UK, the nominated retailer administering the awards on their behalf.

Former Leyton Orient, Grindavik (Iceland), Tooting & Mitcham, Aveley, St Neots Town, and Tilbury stopper Giddens, 24, conceded twice in four outings in Ryman competitions to win the top flight’s golden boot accolade, the first in Billericay’s penalty shoot-out win at Tilbury in round two of the Alan Turvey Trophy sponsored by Robert Dyas and the second in one of two draws and win in the league when he was beaten again in a 1-1 draw at Merstham.

Maldon & Tiptree's Wilks arrived in the summer from St Mirren and collects the golden glove award in Ryman North after the 20-year-old was beaten on only two occasions in five wins and a draw to take the Jammers to the top of the league, a run of results that has also won his manager Kevin Horlock October’s manager of the month accolade.

Bracken has established himself as first choice keeper at Corinthian-Casuals since arriving in 2011. To win his latest accolade, the former West Ham, Tooting & Mitcham United and Sutton United keeper was beaten just three times in a win, a draw and two defeats in the league over the last four weeks.

Precision Goalkeeping boast an impressive list of keeping talent on their books including Kasper Schmeichel, Kieren Westwood, Tomasz Kuszczak, Darren Randolph, David Forde, Frank Fielding, Brian Jensen, Robert Olejnik, Andy Lonergan, Ian McLoughlin, Trevor Carson and Republic of Ireland goalkeeping coach and former international Alan Kelly.

Former England manager Graham Taylor is lead ‘brand ambassador’ for the company which was established in 2005 and also has official partnerships with the Irish Football Association and the Football Association of Wales.
