Macron name their top performers!

By David Watters

Merstham, Chatham Town and Brightlingsea Regent are October's winners of the Ryman League's Macron Team of the Month Awards

The trio were unveiled on Wednesday as the latest winners of the monthly accolades which are sponsored by Macron to reward the top performances over the course of the season in the Ryman Premier, Ryman South and Ryman North respectively.

The winners are chosen from among the Ryman League's 72 clubs each month after judges make their choice from a shortlist of potential clashes, basing their votes on the results, form and circumstances behind the performances. Like all winners, they are now looking forward to being presented with glass trophies marking their club's achievement at upcoming fixtures by representatives from the league and sponsors Macron.

Few would argue with the decision to award the top flight's accolade to Merstham for their heroics in the fourth and final qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday 15 October. Hosting National League South Ebbsfleet United, Hayden Bird's Ryman Premier side booked their berth into the first round proper on Saturday and a money-spinning televised tie at home to League One Oxford United with a 2-1 win courtesy of first half goals from Thomas Kavanagh and Charlie Penny.

James Webster and his Essex men scooped Macron's Ryman North accolade with their final outing of October, an impressive 6-2 romp over the Ryman Premier's Metropolitan Police at Imber Court in Surrey on Saturday in the first qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy.

Josh Gould and Aaron Condon kicked off the big win for Regent, both scoring before and after the break to add to further second half strikes from Phillip Kelly and Harry McDonald.

In Ryman South, Chatham Town, currently fourth from bottom, pulled off one of the most stunning league results of the month by overturning the form book to inflict a first home defeat of the season on leaders Dorking Wanderers on Saturday 15 October, Luke Medley scoring the winner a minute from time after Mohammed Kaffo had given Darren Anslow's side the lead four minutes after the break.
