Only two survive the weather- but Chatham close the gap on the leaders

By Ian Townsend

Chatham get back to winning ways and go second- whilst the Nuts and Bolts woes continue. It's our miniature round up of a miniature Pitching In South East Saturday

Chatham Town started the day five points behind the leaders having lost two of their last three. They welcomed a Lancing side who had taken only one point from the last fifteen available, and got off to a flier, Fabio Saraiva scoring after five and thirteen minutes to delight the home faithful and deliver a comfortable lead. That lead looked less comfortable when Kane Louis got one back for the Lancers on the hour, but the hosts held on to climb to second, two points behind leaders Ramsgate. The Lancers are seventeenth.

Ashford United had seen some indifferent form force them out of the top five, and they welcomed VCD Athletic on the back of a run which had delivered only one win in six . The Nuts and Bolts will have hoped that returning striker Danny Parish could fire them back into the play off places, but it was another striker who opened the scoring early on, Soul Kader making it seven goals in eight matches for Vickers after just six minutes. That turned out to be the only goal of the game, and it moved the visitors to within two points of their hosts.
