Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 22-23: AFC Sudbury

By Ian Townsend

Matt Smith takes us on a tour of AFC Sudbury, and has high expectations of success

We're asking fans from each of our clubs to answer a series of questions about the past, present and future- and to predict the final league table for 22-23. We’re turning yellow, in the company of Matt.

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
Last season's highlight was definitely the First Round of the FA Cup against Colchester United- and also the match before it, against Dartford- what a comeback.

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2022-23?

It's going to be our new striker Nnamdi Nwachuku, what a class act- and I expect another defining season for Josh Stokes.

3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

Anywhere in the playoffs would be great but just maybe champions!

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Got to be Bury Town at home- always a great bank holiday showdown with loads of passion and great support.
Also looking forward to the trip up to Lowestoft Town to see our old manager Jamie, one of the nicest blokes in football.

5. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

Heybridge Swifts; a great old fashion ground in the heart of the community, with loads of great improvements over the last couple of seasons.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Bury Town, always been that passion and determination to be the best in Suffolk.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Make sure to leave plenty of time to sample the food that our great partners at The Bridge serve up at all home games. And yes, you are going in the right direction down a one track lane!

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Has to be Andrew (Porky) Claydon- had many great FA Vase and Cup adventures over his time with us and now back playing for our vets team!

9. Who do you predict will finish in the top five this season?

AFC Sudbury, Stowmarket Town, Lowestoft Town, Grays Athletic, East Thurrock United
