Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 22-23: Horsham

By Ian Townsend

Neil Clarke takes us on a trip to Horsham, via the Kings Arms

We're asking fans from each of our clubs to answer a series of questions about the past, present and future- and to predict the final league table for 22-23. Neil Clarke gives us a grand tour of Cup Winners Horsham.

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?
There were a lot. We’ve had great few years (pandemic years aside) under Dom (di Paola) but last year was special. 4th time ever in the FA Cup 1st round with a terrific 4th round win over NL Woking to earn a trip to Carlisle – the longest journey possible for us. Nearly 300 travelled up for a great Lardy away weekender. That in itself would have been a season highlight but we also reached the semi-final of the Sussex Senior losing to Brighton but of course went and won the Isthmian League Cup! A truly great night in Aveley!

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2022-23?

Well that’s tough to say; we’ve retained and signed quite a few that could be influential. We’re excited to see how proven players at this level like Ajakaiye (from league rivals Kingstonian) and Mazzone (from Met Police) fare, but I’d expect like last season Lee Harding and captain Jack Brivio will shine, and all being well Hester-Cook (when back from injury) will show the league just how good he is.

3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
Optimistically we’ll sneak into the playoffs but I think we’ll just be in the top half, maybe 8th

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Lewes away is always a great one but I’ll go for Bognor away on Boxing Day.

5. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

It’s got its flaws, but I’ll go for Lewes.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Lewes. Always had a long-term rivalry with Lewes particularly when they had Jimmy Quinn around but not sure Lewes quite see it the same way. We always get a great turnout there.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Visit the town first – recommend the Kings Arms pub where a few HFC fans typically meet before getting the bus up to the ground. Get to the ground relatively early for the great food we do – a footy scran winner!

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

I’d have to go for Lee Carney. Gary Charman who broke our all time appearance record last season runs close but Lee was such an exciting player to watch pulling the strings in midfield, scoring crucial goals and working his socks off.

9. Who do you predict will finish in the top five this season?
Enfield Town, Folkestone Invicta, Lewes, Hornchurch, Hastings United
