Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 22/23: South Central revisit

Predicting what’s about to happen in the forthcoming season is rather difficult. After all, if it were an exact science then bookmakers would go out of business.

Our Pitching In Isthmian South Central supporters delivered what can- perhaps optimistically- be called a rather mixed bag. You expected Leatherhead to sweep to the title, a decision perhaps based on their courageous fight against relegation during the previous campaign, but the Tanners could only manage seventh. You expected Chertsey Town to finish second, perhaps based on their narrow defeat in the Play Off Final, but the Curfews could only manage eighth. You predicted a Play Off spot for Northwood, and you would have been right, had only you placed them in the play off spots at the other end of the table! You also thought that Bedfont Sports would have another play off campaign, with Merstham on their heels, and whilst the two sides were indeed close for most of the season they were not close in the way that you expected!

Looking on the bright side, you placed Basingstoke Town and Walton & Hersham in the top five. You only just underestimated Hanworth Town’s fine first campaign, and you were exactly right with your predicted finish for Westfield (yes, we’re clutching at straws now). You predicted Sutton Common Rovers difficulties, and those of Ashford Town, although you thought both sides would have an even worse campaign than they delivered. That said, you vastly underestimated the abilities of South Park Reigate and Southall, and vastly overestimated the abilities of Tooting & Mitcham United.
