Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 22/23: South East revisit

Predicting what’s about to happen in the forthcoming season is rather difficult. After all, if it were an exact science then bookmakers would go out of business.

Our Pitching In Isthmian South East supporters delivered a bit of a mixed bag. To be fair, expecting Ashford United to bounce back after their Play Off Final defeat and take the title wasn’t really a stretch, although it proved to be one; whilst nobody would have expected Haywards Heath Town to follow a promotion play off with a relegation play off, even less to lose it. Your predictions of Whitehawk and Ramsgate in the top five were on the money, exactly right for the Hawks, three places out for the Rams, whilst Cray Valley PM, who you predicted in fourth, missed out only on the last day of the campaign.

At the other end, you predicted Faversham Town’s struggles, but you expected Hythe Town to finish just above them, and our Play Off Finalists spent the entire campaign proving you- and just about everybody else- very wrong indeed. You expected Burger Hill Town to challenge for a Play Off spot, but the Play Off spot they challenged for was of an entirely different kind.

Of the promoted teams, you expected that Chatham Town would have the best finish, followed by Beckenham Town and then Sheppey United- and it turned out that you were right, although wildly wrong when it came to their final finishes, each of them having much, much (much) better seasons than you thought.

You were very nearly right with your positioning of Sevenoaks Town. You were absolutely right with your hopes for Chichester City, nearly right with Littlehampton Town and Sittingbourne, whilst Three Bridges, Lancing and East Grinstead Town exceeded your expectations.
