Pitching In Isthmian Supporters predictions 23-24: Chatham Town

By Ian Townsend

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. We’re heading to Chatham, with Andy Yates

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

We had a great season at Chatham, from wondering how we’d fare back at Isthmian level to winning the league. Our run-in was exceptional, winning the last seven games to take the title.
Not forgetting being unbeaten at home with an average gate of 1000. The atmosphere at the Bauvill has been superb all season.

2. And what was the worst moment?

Personally, losing away to Beckenham midweek after hitting some mid-season form. It was a flat performance but credit Beckenham for getting the win at Eden Park.

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

It has to be Jack Evans, our captain and leader. He always seems to create something out of nothing when it counts. His free kicks are legendary and he’s converted some high pressure penalty kicks in crucial games. Of course, we’re not a one man team and mention has to be made of Jordy Robins and Reece Butler who have been exceptional all season.

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2023-24 campaign?

We’re lucky to have a settled spine to our team with Jordy Robins, Seidou Sanogo and Reece Butler, so that's a bonus. Looking up front, Emmanuel Oloyede and Ashley Nzala will always cause the opposition problems.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

We’re now into the unknown, so this is a difficult one to answer. I’d like to think we’d be comfortably in the top half and pushing for the play-off spots. But as we know, anything can happen.

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

As a season ticket holder, all the home games. The league is new to us so I don’t have any teams I’m looking forward to playing. Having said that, I’ll take in as many away games as time constraints allow.

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

The first game of last season at East Grinstead was special, even though we lost. Gorgeous summer day, lovely pitch, great ground. East Grinstead it is.

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?
I wouldn’t say I travel away regularly as I work on Saturday mornings, and I don’t normally sample the food, so I’ll pass on this one.

9. Choose your top five:

Hornchurch, Dulwich Hamlet, Canvey Island, Lewes and hopefully Chatham.

Right, it's your turn! If you'd like to represent your club, please email Ian at townsendaround@gmail.com and you'll see your answers here soon.
