Pitching In Isthmian Supporters predictions 23-24: Cray Valley PM

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. We’re heading to Cray Valley, with Bill Ford

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

Some wonderful footballing displays, the home wins against Haywards Heath Town 5-0 Faversham Town 5-0 and Ashford United 5-1 stay in the memory. The 90th minute Ade Adeyemo goal to take the lead against Sheppey United unfortunately short lived, see worst moment.

2. And what was the worst moment?

After taking the lead in the final league game (see above) and dreaming of a play-off slot the win would have given us, conceding a 94th minute equaliser to Sheppey United to shatter those dreams.

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

Ade Adeyemo enjoyed an excellent season entertaining us with some exciting play, numerous assists and 15 goals including two hat tricks. He was rewarded with earning his first professional contract signing for EFL side Crawley Town in the close season.

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2023-24 campaign?

A new manager Steve McKimm has arrived and has started to put together a new look squad with what look like some astute signings to add to some of last seasons best performers. Denzel Gayle always excites and looking forward to seeing Freddie Parker upfront.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
A promotion challenge and a play off spot would be the aim, the key maybe how quickly the team can gel together and adapt to the way the new manager will want to play.

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

We have lost one local derby with no VCD Athletic this season but have both Phoenix Sports and Erith & Belvedere to look forward to. Plenty of familiar faces at those clubs to enjoy a chat and catch up.

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

I am looking forward to visiting some new grounds, namely Broadbridge Heath and Horndean neither of whom we have visited before. Sheppey United is a favourite of mine, we always seem to play well there.

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?

Always a warm welcome from Lancing and Burgess Hill Town, excellent burgers.

9. Choose your top five:

Ashford United, Cray Valley (PM), Erith & Belvedere, Ramsgate and Sevenoaks Town.
