Pitching In Isthmian Supporters predictions 23-24: Whitehawk

By Ian Townsend

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. We’re heading to Whitehawk, with Pete Gibbons

1. Thinking about last season, what were your highlights?

Winning the play off final against Hythe and getting promoted on a Friday night in front of our biggest crowd in years. What a night!
It was a fantastic season in general and I enjoyed almost every game, with a 2-0 home win against Cray Valley PM being another that stands out. But there were many games I could have chosen!

2. And what was the worst moment?

It seems harsh to pick anything really considering how great a season was but consecutive last minute losses to Chatham and East Grinstead stung, as we were in with a strong chance of winning the league at that point. But in the end they did not matter!

3. Which member of your squad was your Player of the Season - and why?

This was a tough one as we were a solid and consistent side with every player doing their bit. Luke Robinson, Charlie Harris and Luke Glover all deserve a shout. But my pick would be Nathan Cooper who was consistent in defence and popped up with many vital goals.

4. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2023-24 campaign?

Luke Robinson is pure class, with a full season at the club I expect him to make an even bigger impact. Ben Pope and Jack Dixon have stood out in pre-season and have good pedigree. I’m also looking forward to seeing Charlie Lambert develop, he has quality and the fans love his attitude.

5. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?
Very difficult to say – I am feeling confident about the side, but the Isthmian Premier is looking very strong – more so than we were last at this level, with four relegation places. I’d consider staying up to be a success but this squad has the quality to do more!

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Dulwich Hamlet away should be great fun, and falls on my birthday this year, and away games against rivals like Lewes and Hastings are exciting too. 12 new grounds for me this season and I hope to do most of them! Isthmian Premier is the best division in non-league for away trips in my opinion!

7. What is your favourite Isthmian away ground?

Hastings is my favourite – a great town and love the atmosphere of the stadium. I’d also like to give a shout to Folkestone Invicta – looking forward to returning there.

8. If you regularly travelled away, which ground served the best food?

I don’t tend to eat at away games, but I had a good burger at Chatham last year. And looking forward to Kingstonian away, at Tooting’s ground for their range of good food options.

9. Choose your top five:

Hornchurch, Billericay Town, Dulwich Hamlet, Hastings United, Lewes
