Rams hit the summit

By Ian Townsend

After nearly three months, we have new Pitching In Isthmian South East leaders

Most of Tuesday’s Pitching In Isthmian South East programme was a washout, but the one game we did get to watch saw Cup heroes Ramsgate replace Three Bridges at the top of the table, after a run which had seen them at the summit since August 19th.

Hosts Sheppey United were in good form, having bounced back quickly from their FA Cup First Round exit to win their previous two without conceding a goal. The Rams league aspirations had not been at all dampened at all by their Cup success, and they travelled to the Island having won their previous seven matches- a run which had seen them keep five clean sheets, including the last four.

It looked as if the match would end goalless, Ites keeper Aiden Prall performing heroics to keep the Rams at bay. It seemed almost unfair when he was finally beaten, but beaten he was, substitute Benny Bioletti, who had been on the field for just five minutes, took a ball from TJ Jadama and fired it home. It had perhaps been coming- Bioletti had already hit the bar- and it was crucial, as the Rams took over at the top on goal difference, and with two games in hand remaining.
