Regent make it four wins from five

By Ian Townsend

Gorleston’s unbeaten run departs, whilst the good form continues for Brightlingsea

We had only one match last night, all roads leading to Great Yarmouth as Gorleston welcomed Brightlingsea Regent in Pitching In Isthmian North.

It was very much a mid table battle, eleventh v tenth- and those positions remain unaltered, but the gap between the sides is now four points. Regent made the trip on a run of three wins from four, whilst the Greens were four unbeaten- but that unbeaten record was ended by a goal twenty one minutes from time, the only goal of the match.

Kai Fletcher was the match winner, and he’d only been on the field for three minutes after being introduced from the bench by Regent boss Brett Munyard- perhaps Brett can claim an assist?! It was a first Regent goal of the season for Kai on his seventh appearance after joining from Brantham Athletic, and we suspect it was made all the sweeter given he was scoring it against one of his former clubs. He was a Green as recently as last season.

Regent are fourteen points away from a play off spot, so have likely left a run too late with only sit matches remaining- but they may still have an influence on that race as they have to face both Brentwood Town and Heybridge Swifts. Gorleston will get a speedy chance of revenge, as they travel to the Taydal on the last day of the regular campaign, Saturday 27th April.
