Rocks deliver shocks- and we've a big night of action ahead

By Ian Townsend

East Thurrock go three points clear- for now- and we've got some fabulous football for you this evening

East Thurrock United's return to the BetVictor Isthmian League couldn't have started any better. After Saturday's comprehensive win over newly promoted Cheshunt, last night they travelled to title-favourites Carshalton Athletic- and did it again, emerging with three points from a hard-fought encounter.

In front of four hundred and fourteen at Colston Avenue, the Rocks took the lead in the twentieth minute as Alex Clark volleyed home, and two minutes before the break another volley, this time from Mitchell Gilbey, doubled their advantage. The Robins rallied after the break, and eventually got back into the game when Omar Koroma got on the end of a Ernold Haxhiu cross, but with only seven minutes to go by this point there wasn't enough time to find a leveller.

Our headline image, by the way, comes from the lens of Lewes Chairman Stuart Fuller. Thanks Stuart.

We've nine matches tonight. Bognor Regis Town and Horsham will both be looking for their first victory of the season as they compete in a Sussex derby at Nyewood Lane- and we've another Sussex derby at Woodside Road, as Worthing entertain Lewes.

Also at the seaside Brightlingsea Regent entertain newly promoted Bowers and Pitsea, whilst elsewhere another newly promoted side, Cheshunt, will be looking to get their first Premier Division points on the board as they entertain Potters Bar Town, victors over Carshalton on Saturday.

We've a Surrey derby between Corinthian-Casuals and Merstham, whilst staying in that county Leatherhead bring Haringey Borough to Fetcham Grove.

Bookies favourites Hornchurch look to make it two victories from two, but another fancied side, Margate, will stand in their way, whilst Wingate & Finchley host Kingstonian, both sides looking to record their first victory after draws at the weekend.

Finally we have a titanic clash in prospect on Donkey Lane, as Enfield Town host Bishop's Stortford.

We also have an FA Cup replay this evening, as Chertsey Town travel to Cobham determined to finish what they started on Saturday.
