Will Graham is looking forward to leading Whitstable Town to success next season after stepping up to become the Ryman South club's new manager.

Graham was named as the Oystermen's new boss on Friday after the club's board moved quickly to replace the Ward brothers who left The Belmont last week to return to Ramsgate having secured an eighth placed finish on 71 points, the club's highest-ever position and points tally.

The 30-year-old, pictured alongside chairman Gary Johnson on Friday after taking charge, holds a UEFA A licence and as well as the first team, will oversee the club's U18s and U21s. The Oystermen, who ignored a dozen potential candidates to give Graham his first chance in management, say his immediate remit is to start putting together a first team squad.

Whitstable Town chairman Johnson said: "Will Graham, although a rookie, deserves the opportunity and certainly has the club at heart having previously been involved a few years ago.

"He is also ambitious and it appears hungry with a thirst to develop the potential within the club, something that excited the club's Board. Everyone has to start somewhere so let’s get behind Will and give him every chance of success.

"Whitstable Town FC certainly do not lack ambition, but they give a chance to folk to rejuvenate themselves or like Will, to emerge within the game."

Graham said: "I’m an inspiring young coach. Every manager in history started somewhere and I believe that with my desire, this is my opportunity to succeed as a manager and make my stamp on the game."

Oystermen officials say they expect to announce training and trial dates shortly. Potential players should email their playing CVs and contact details to the club's new manager at: secretary@whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

The Oystermen have confirmed their first pre-season fixture, local rivals Herne Bay for the Bruce Smith Shield at The Belmont on Saturday 11 July.
