Lewes amongst potential winners of The Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Award

Our very own Lewes FC have been nominated for The Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Award- and we thought you might like to cast a vote in their favour!

The nomination reads:

'Lewes Football Club is the only club in the world to have equal pay for men and women, as part of its EqualityFC mission, which centres itself around fairness and doing things the right way. The club’s various equality and diversity initiatives expands into resources, facilities, opportunities, kit, value and care for all its staff and players. At the heart of Lewes FC is their community, bringing people together through both the game and local projects such as a gardening scheme set up by one of the players, which allows volunteers to grow produce for local food banks by composting the food waste generated by the club to feed the soil.

Described by one of the managers as a “beacon of light guiding us towards a better future”, the club plans to keep campaigning for positive change in football which they hope will reflect a positive change in society. In 2021 Lewes FC was also the first football club to sign up to a pioneering new gambling education programme by Gambling with Lives, a charity set up by families bereaved by gambling-related suicides.

The club and its directors have publicly lobbied for increased prize money for the women’s FA Cup and regularly give talks at companies and conferences about their vision for equality.'

We think that says it all, really- so all there is left to do is vote. You can do that by heading here and choosing The Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year.
