Rovers sign a record-breaking former Urchin

Grays forward heads to Great Wakering

The Southend Echo has confirmed that Grays Athletic striker George Purcell has swapped Parkside for the seaside, heading to Southend to sign for Great Wakering Rovers.

Purcell only signed for Grays in October after moving from Canvey Island, and has made seventeen appearances for Jim Cooper's side, scoring six goals. He made his last Athletic appearance as they defeated Rovers just last weekend.

The striker moved to Park Lane in May, after six years with Hornchurch. He managed six goals for the Gulls, following on from the seventeen he scored for the Urchins last season in the Premier Division- and the one hundred and forty nine he scored for the club in total. He is the record goalscorer for Hornchurch, with a record that may take rather a long time to break.
