Saturday's First Division South action review

By David Watters

Folkestone Invicta could seal the Ryman South title on Good Friday when they host third-bottom Walton & Hersham at the Fullicks Stadium, writes writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Goals from Ian Draycott after 61 minutes and substitute Jordan Wright five minutes from time put Folkestone in control of their crucial top of the table clash with third-placed Worthing at the Phototronix Stadium where Invicta's eventual 2-1 victory left Neil Cugley's men within just one more win of the championship.

A stoppage time consolation effort from Rebels' forward Zack Newton caused a nervy finale in front of a 567 crowd, but Invicta held firm for three crucial points The win means Folkestone are now just one win away from their first ever league title.

Mathematically, Dorking Wanderers can still catch Invicta if they win all their remaining six matches and the Kent side lose theirs but it`s realistically the play-offs for the Surrey outfit after they won 2-0 at fourth-bottom East Grinstead Town.

Tom Tolfrey bagged another brace in the 38th and 54th minutes – the second from the penalty spot.

Who joins Wanderers in the play-offs is still involving at least seven other teams, including Worthing of course.

Faversham Town are fourth and won 1-0 at Stompond Lane against relegation-threatened Walton & Hersham, courtesy of a 13th minute Liam King effort.

Hythe Town complete the current top five and they also won by a single Frankie Sawyer goal after 18 minutes at Reachfields against mid-table Three Bridges.

Hastings United are just a couple of points adrift of Hythe in sixth after beating Whyteleafe 2-0 at the Pilot Field, thanks to Chris Summing-Bart in the 67th minute and then Ollie Rowe eight minutes from the end.

Hastings moved above Herne Bay, whose game against Ramsgate was abandoned at Winch`s Field at half-time after an air ambulance was required to take Bay`s Lee Browning and the Rams` Nick Treadwell to hospital after an accidental clash of heads left both unconscious.

Corinthian-Casuals are five points off the top five after condemning an all-but relegated Whitstable Town to a 4-2 defeat at King George`s Field.

Shaun Okojie proved to be Casuals` hero with a hat-trick in the 20th, 27th and 83rd minutes – James Cottee adding the other in injury-time – with Aidan Blanchard on 71 minutes and Callum Wraight two minutes from time, replying for the Oystermen.

Molesey are level on points with Casuals but have a game in hand. However, their confidence won`t be great after suffering a 6-2 hammering at mid-table South Park!

The hosts raced into a 4-0 lead by the 21st minute, thanks to Asa Rixon-Nicholls, Kofi Quartey, James McElligott and Kieran Lavery. James McShane pulled one back from the spot after 33 minutes but Quartey went on to complete his hat-trick in the second half, with Dre Grobler adding a second for the Moles.

At the other end of the table, Peacehaven & Telscombe are six points shy of the safety-mark with six games left after losing 3-1 at Sittingbourne, whose Jack Stevenson, Tom Carlse and Jack Embery outgunned Josh Marshall for Haven.

Chipstead are only three points above the bottom three after going down to a 3-1 High Road defeat to a Carshalton Athletic side for whom Tommy Bradford netted a hat-trick – all after Billy Marshall had given Chips a sixth minute lead.

Tooting & Mitcham United eased to a 4-1 win against poor travellers Guernsey FC at Imperial Fields in the day`s other game.

Robbie Legg gave the Channel Islanders a 27th minute lead that was surpassed by Serge Makofo with a brace, Chace O`Neil and Lee Hall.
