Saturday's Ryman Premier action review

Ryman League Premier Division

Maidstone United maintained their one-point advantage at the top of the Ryman Premier on Saturday after a 3-0 win against struggling Enfield Town at the Gallagher Stadium, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

But, despite the scoreline, this was a much-improved performance by a ten-man Enfield side. After Jordan Lockie's 31st minute dismissal for a challenge on Michael Phillips was deemed reckless by the referee, Maidstone were repeatedly frustrated until a mix up at the back allowed Rory Hill to pounce and open the scoring on the hour-mark.

Town kept their nerve and had chances to strike back but a well struck free-kick from Fabio Feravia on 77 minutes was just too strong for Noel Imber to keep out. Worthy winners, a third goal in injury-time from Hill flattered Maidstone a little as Town finally tired late in the game.

Second-placed Dulwich Hamlet maintained their impressive form with a hard-fought victory over a Billericay Town side that pushed them hard at Champion Hill.

The home side went ahead on the half-hour mark when Billy Lumley brought down Dean Lodge in the area and Erhun Oztumer netted the resultant spot-kick. But it wasn't until 16 minutes from time that Hamlet managed to add a second when Nyren Clunis got on the end of a Joel Ledgister cross.

The Blues reduced the arrears in the 82nd minute when Ledgister was adjudged to have handled in the box and Glenn Poole beat Phil Wilson from the spot, and then the latter pulled off a terrific late save to deny Poole from open play and preserve Hamlet's lead.

Kingstonian had the chance to go joint top with victory at Crown Meadow against Lowestoft Town but finished on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline.

The Trawlerboys gained a morale-boosting win, thanks to goals in either half. Jake Reed opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when he finished off some fine approach play from Jack Ainsley and Robert Eagle for his fifth goal of the season. The hosts finally sealed the points late on when Reed teed up Lee Smith three minutes from time and he made no mistake from close range.

Lewes are fifth after a 3-0 success against ten-man Margate at the Dripping Pan.

Within four minutes of kicking off Nicky Wheeler found space just outside the box before curling an unstoppable shot into the top corner of Craig Holloway's net to give the Rooks an early boost. And Lewes added two more to their tally after that, courtesy of Jack Dixon immediately after half-time and then Dan Smith 11 minutes from time.

Wealdstone are looking dangerous and are now just a point below the top five after beating Grays Athletic 3-1 at Grosvenor Vale.

But they had to recover from being an early fifth minute Jeff Hammond goal down and a generally poor first half performance to win.

Five minutes after half-time Scott McGleish equalised from the spot after Joe Nightingill had handled in the box. Fifteen minutes from time the Stones took the lead when Tom Hamblin headed in an Elliott Godfrey corner. The win was wrapped up in the 83rd minute when Tom Pett got on the end of a Jonathan Wright cross to make it 3-1.

Bognor Regis Town are seventh but suffered a 3-0 reverse at Wingate & Finchley.

The Rocks’ two-month unbeaten run in the league was brought to an abrupt halt as two own goals and a red card made it a day to forget in north London.

They were already one down just after the hour-mark thanks to a Dean Mason effort when just past the hour mark Craig Robson and Stuart Axten both put the ball past their keeper Mark Zawadski within two minutes of each other to secure the win for the hosts.

Bury Town ensured Cray Wanderers remain bottom of the table after a 3-1 win at the Courage Stadium.

A fairly comfortable win for the Blues started with two goals in three minutes midway through the first half from Ryan Semple and Anthony Roulston. Tom Bullard added a third on 69 minutes, and although Tommy Whitnell managed to reduce the deficit 10 minutes later, it was only a consolation for Cray.

Hendon secured a 5-2 win over second-bottom Thamesmead Town but it wasn`t quite as straightforward as the scoreline might suggest.

Tony Taggart gave the Greens a great start with a goal inside the opening four minutes. However, Mead were awarded a penalty in the 28th minute, only for Javilon Campbell to see his effort saved by home keeper Berkley Laurencin.

Just before half-time veteran striker Jefferson Louis doubled Hendon's lead and three minutes after the break it was virtually game over when Louis scored his second and the Greens' third.

Dave Dedhiou made it 4-0 just past the hour-mark, with Louis Tozer responding for Mead in the 81st minute. Sub Anthony Thomas then made it a nap hand for Hendon seven minutes later and in injury-time Campbell managed a second consolation for the visitors.

Leiston moved up to seventeenth in the table after a good 2-1 win at Rookery Hill against East Thurrock United.

A complete mix-up in the home defence gifted the visitors a 12th minute lead when Ton Stephen headed past his own keeper. And three minutes before half-time Leiston were two-up when Craig Parker netted from close range. The Rocks 'won' the second half when sub Leon McKenzie reduced the arrears in the 64th minute.

Saturday's only other game saw third-bottom Carshalton Athletic earn a late draw at Colston Lane against Metropolitan Police.

The Met led through Charlie Collins' 19th minute 20-yard effort but they were unable to add to that and paid the price as sub Ben Kujodji equalised 19 minutes from time.
