Saturday's Ryman Premier action review

By David Watters

With Dulwich Hamlet on FA Trophy duty on Saturday, Hampton & Richmond Borough stormed to the top of the Ryman Premier table after clinching a fine 4-0 win at The Prospects Stadium over Canvey Island, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Beavers recorded their seventh successive league victory to move two points ahead of Dulwich with a game in hand.

Hampton opened the scoring on 17 minutes through Jamal Lowe and four minutes later it was 2-0 when Lowe was afforded too much time and space and Canvey goalkeeper Conor Gough had no chance as he buried the ball past him again.

Eddie Hutchinson scored his first league goal for the Beavers to make it virtually game over after 63 minutes. And they made it 4-0 in the 78th minute when keeper Gough fumbled Dean Sinclair’s corner into his own net.

Apart from Dulwich, the other top five contenders were also in action, although seventh-placed Leiston`s game was one of a couple to be postponed.

Third-placed Tonbridge Angels slipped up when they were beaten 2-1 at Longmead by fifth-placed East Thurrock United.

A crowd of 553 saw Sam Higgins give the visiting Rocks the lead on the half-hour mark. Nathan Elder equalised three minutes into the second period but Higgins` second eight minutes later eventually proved to be the winner for the visitors.

East Thurrock pulled to within a point of fourth-placed Billericay Town after they were held to a 1-1 derby draw by Brentwood Town at New Lodge.

A crowd of 557 saw Ryan O`Rawe give third-bottom Brentwood a 31st minute lead. But Craig Edwards` side eventually pulled back on level terms just past the hour-mark, thanks to Teddy Nesbitt.

Bognor Regis Town maintained their challenge in sixth and remain level on points with East Thurrock after a routine 2-0 win against second-bottom VCD Athletic at Nyewood Lane, top scorer Jason Prior bagging a brace in the fourth and 50th minutes to see the Rocks home.

Enfield Town are just a point behind the top five in eighth after recording a 2-0 win against Metropolitan Police at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium.

Town led through Bobby Devyne`s 17th minute effort and then Ryan Doyle added a second nine minutes into the second half. The Met`s chances of getting back into the game diminished when they had Rob Bartley sent-off with a straight red card after 68 minutes.

Kingstonian are a point and a place further back after winning 3-1 at Leylands Park against Burgess Hill Town.

The returning Andre McCollin gave the K`s an early third minute lead, only for Sam Fisk to level after 23 minutes. But McCollin bagged his second of the game ei9ght minutes later to restore the visitors` lead and on 66 minutes Pico Gomez added a crucial third for K`s.

Farnborough remain in the bottom four after going down to a 3-1 defeat at Mill Field to inconsistent Grays Athletic.

The home side had to come back from being a 16th minute Kevin Krans goal down to win, courtesy of Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson after 25 minutes, Joao Carlos after 71 minutes and then sub Corey Davidson in injury-time.

That result was made worse when news of fifth-bottom Needham Market`s 1-0 win against Leatherhead came through, Darryl Oakley`s goal on the half-hour mark pulling the Marketmen eight points clear of Boro, who have two games in hand.

A season back, two divisions separated Merstham and Staines Town but the Moatsiders` 5-1 hammering of the Swans pushed them four points ahead of them in the table.

Tuti Henriques have the hosts a 16th minute lead that former Staines man Calum Willock doubled two minutes later. Another ex-Swan, Tommy Kavanagh, made it 3-0 in the 57th minute and sub Phil Page added a fourth on 80 minutes. Keshany Samuels made it a nap hand four minutes later, with Pat Cox`s penalty in stoppage time being all the visitors` could muster.
